Component protection removal

We remove component protection from MIB infotainment units, instrument clusters, radar sensors and central electrics modules, so a replacement part works as intended in your car.

What it is

What is component protection?

Component protection (CP) is an anti-theft function used by the Volkswagen Group. It links certain modules to the vehicle they were first installed in.

When one of those modules is installed in a different car, for example a used part bought as a replacement, component protection limits it until it is adapted to the new vehicle.

Common signs:

  • “Component Protection” message on screen
  • No sound from the radio
  • Limited or missing functions
  • Fault codes for the module

Upgrades and retrofits

Newer units installed in place of the original, such as an infotainment upgrade.

Retrofit

We work only on modules legitimately owned by the customer and installed in their own vehicle.

After a radar sensor is replaced, an ADAS calibration is usually required.
