Windshield replacement

Front cameraHome/ADAS calibration
Driver assistance systems depend on cameras and radar sensors aimed with great precision. Calibration realigns them to the manufacturer's specification, so the systems read the road correctly.
What it is
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems: the features that help you keep your lane, hold a distance, see around the car and brake in an emergency.
These systems rely on a front camera behind the windshield and radar sensors in the bumpers. A misalignment of a fraction of a degree can make the car read lane lines or other vehicles in the wrong place.
Calibration sets the exact position and angle of each sensor, following the manufacturer's procedure, and confirms the system works without faults.
When it is needed
Any work that moves a camera or a radar sensor, or changes how the car sits on the road, can require a new calibration.

Front cameraRemoving or replacing a bumper, grille or emblem can move the radar sensor behind it.
RadarChanging the alignment changes the direction the car travels relative to its sensors.

All systemsMessages such as “ACC unavailable” or “Lane assist not available” can point to a calibration issue.
Diagnosis firstMethods
The manufacturer defines which method each system requires. Some vehicles need both.
The vehicle stays still while the sensor reads precisely positioned targets, set at measured distances from the car.
The vehicle is driven under set conditions, such as a minimum speed on well-marked roads, while the system learns its alignment.
